چکیده

The paper deals with a numerical analusis for the seismic response of reinforced concrete structures containing cable elements. The cable behaviour is considered as nonconvex and nonmonotone one and is described by generalized subdifferential relations including loosening, elastoplastic fracturing etc. effects. The problem is treated incrementally by double discretization: in space by finite elements and piece-wise linearization of cable behaviour, and in time by the Newmark method. Thus, in each time step an incremental linear complementarity problem is solved with a reduced number of problem unknowns. Finally, an example from civil engineering praxis is presented and some results are discussed.

Cyclic and Monotonic Behavior of Strengthened and Unstrengthened Square Reinforced Concrete Columns

The use of composite materials is an effective technique to enhance the capacity of reinforced concrete columns subjected to the seismic loading due to their high tensile strength. In this paper, numerical models are developed in order to predict the experimental behavior of square reinforced concrete columns strengthened by glass fiber reinforced polymer and steel bars and unstrengthened colum...

Effect of seismic sequences on fragility of Iranian code-conforming shear wall RC buildings

Background and objective: Estimating the vulnerability rate of urban textures in seismic incident following a major earthquake (aftershocks) is crucial in decision making and crisis management. For this purpose, it is necessary to calculate the vulnerability of buildings due to the successive incidents and to use them in the vulnerability estimation for probable future aftershocks. Seismic frag...

The Effect of Axial Force Variations on Nonlinear Modeling and Seismic Response of Reinforced Concrete Structures

In order to increase the accuracy of evaluating seismic response of structures, it is critical to conduct dynamic analyses based upon precise nonlinear models being as consistent as possible with the real conditions of corresponding structures. The concentrated plasticity model including one elastic element and two nonlinear spring elements at both ends has been considered within the research c...

Seismic behavior of cable braces strengthened with a central steel plate

This research suggests a novel method to use steel cables as a structural bracing system. The Moment Resisting Frame (MRF) works in tandem with the cable bracings when this method is used. The suggested bracing model can address the fundamental problem of current cable bracing methods, namely the lack of flexibility while keeping costs to a minimum. This approach requires no additional equipmen...
